Rocky Point 2025. What will it look like? Will this be a great year, kind of average, or a down year? As the U.S. economy goes, so goes travel and tourism to Mexico. And as tourism from Americans visiting Puerto Peñasco goes, the local economy follows.
Once again, the success of Puerto Peñasco businesses as well as working residents will mainly rely on tourism in 2025. Beyond this, there is no crystal ball here. However, you really don’t need one. This is because the small seaside resort town on the Sea of Cortez is a “been there, done that” destination. It seems to be a survivor.
Therefore, you can reasonably say the future remains bright for Rocky Point 2025 despite some obvious potentially rocky roads.
Politics Impacting Puerto Peñasco
I have no interest or need here to pick sides which trigger people’s political preferences or opinions. This is especially because so much has changed recently. Rocky Point 2025 may be impacted by new people wielding political power on a local, national, and international basis.
In the past few months, Puerto Peñasco has a new municipal government in place. The new mayor is Dr. Oscar Eduardo Castro. He has immediately taken visible action across town since entering office in September. It is encouraging. However, he still faces limited resources. His ability to manage or possibly expand resources will likely determine how much he can accomplish for the people and Puerto Peñasco.
Dr. Castro’s ride to victory was part of the Moreno Party wave which swept across Mexico. On a national scale, the country elected its 66th president and its first female. Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum is also a few months into her post. She is replacing her mentor, the widely popular Andrés Manuel López Obrador, known by his initials, AMLO.
North of the Mexico border with the U.S., Americans re-elected Donald Trump to be the 47th president. He again has an eye on Mexico. Immigration is still a major issue. In addition, his talk of imposing tariffs would impact commerce and relations between the two neighboring countries. Furthermore, talk of U.S. military action against Mexican cartels as terrorist organizations would be another scenario to watch.
Infrastructure Issues
In Rocky Point 2025, infrastructure issues may be another scenario where the past collides with the present and future. These could be good, bad, or anywhere in between.
Consider the water shortage Puerto Peñasco already has. Expanding tourism makes water even more of a challenge. What impact will the huge solar power plant have on the local economy? The Sonoyta – Puerto Peñasco highway is the road traveled by most tourists. It needs more love and money than it currently receives. Meanwhile, the growing number of potholes naturally creates a rapid rise in complaints of annoying and costly flat tires by tourists. This is not good news for anyone.
A new Walmart in town will also have a major impact in town. The two sides on Walmart are well-documented. It is an unwinnable battle for some “Mom & Pop” local businesses. Consumers are lured by the familiarity and low pricing of the retail giant.
Pricing and Inflation Impacting Puerto Peñasco
Again, no interest in choosing sides on matters of pricing and inflation. These also are thorny issues impacting Rocky Point 2025. Some local businesses and independent workers are struggling to generate enough income to survive. Meanwhile, others appear to be seeking to capitalize on their strength.
On the other hand, the complaints about high prices from tourists are also real. Like it or not, regular visitors know pricing is not like it used to be even recently. And favorable pricing has always been one of the attractions for Puerto Peñasco.
In particular, restaurants seem to be the focal point of this conflict.
Rocky Point 2025 Will Survive
Somehow. Someway. Rocky Point 2025 will survive. It will be in spite of all the above issues flaring up or just some of them. And of course, there is a good chance something totally new will make headlines. These events are like the gorgeous sunrises and sunsets in Puerto Peñasco. We know they are coming and yet they still manage to be unexpected and different.
