EVERYTHING. We begin here with the answer. It is the perfect response to the most obvious question. “What does a San Antonio Eagles Nest have to do with renting Rocky Point condos?” This is a story about a host who genuinely cares about people. He simply believes in kindness while serving others. It is also a story about parenting, love, valuing veterans, and overcoming obstacles. And last but not least, football and those “unique” Philly fans.
Therefore, because of these reasons, this story deserves a spot on the Sonoran Sun Direct website. It has everything to do with our mindset and mission with guests of the Sonoran Sun Resort.
Smoke Skybar Kindness
The Smoke Skybar is the San Antonio Eagles Nest location. This makes it the local gathering place for Philadelphia Eagles fans to watch their team’s games. Oh yeah, and to eat, drink, and be passionate.
Adrian Martinez owns the Smoke Skybar. He says his place drew 600 people for the Eagles’ playoff win over Green Bay. 900 enjoyed the Birds’ beating the L.A. Rams for the NFC Championship. He expected 1500 Bird Gang members for Super Bowl 59.
Still, Adrian took time with me on the phone last week. All he heard was a dad wanting to watch part of the game with my son, Julian, in U.S. Air Force tech school. Once Adrian heard I was coming to town early to surprise my son, he reserved a table for us despite already warning me of “Standing room only. First come. First served.”
Because of this, he set the scene for a small but sensational San Antonio Super Bowl Surprise.
Make Memories

Julian Baldrick is a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan. And as the solo dad who raised him, I am his biggest fan. My plan was arriving early for his graduation so we could watch the Super Bowl together.
The day before he entered U.S. Air Force basic training, Julian wanted to go to the Eagles Nest in Scottsdale, Arizona. Why not repeat that at the San Antonio Eagles Nest?
In reality, my goal was to watch only part of the Super Bowl because the base had a curfew of 9:00 p.m. I brought along the awesome-looking Saquon Barkley Salute to Service jersey I gave Julian as a U.S. Air Force Basic Training graduation gift. With total confidence, I knew these acts of love would make lasting memories.
What I didn’t know.
Surprise…Surprise
My car would die (twice) 107 miles into the 1,000-mile drive on Saturday. However, I would miraculously limp it home 6 hours later from Tucson, Arizona. Then, I would turn around with Julian’s car knowing the road ahead. I would be driving alone 1,000 miles straight through the night. If successful, it would make an even more powerful memory between father and son. You get the idea.
Watch the video of the exhausted and grateful guy. It serves as a reminder that simple beach getaways become precious memories. And just like Adrian Martinez at the San Antonio Eagles Nest, I love to practice kindness in serving others at the Sonoran Sun Resort. Try me. You’ll see.
