It’s what she does. Shelah saves dogs in Puerto Peñasco. She and her husband bring them into their home and go out to feed nearby dogs as well. This happens on weekdays and weekends. Caring for animals is a highly personal mission which is obviously a big part of their lives.
Many people find fault with social media. Furthermore, I’ll admit I have definitely been one of them. It is because I don’t understand why people seem to think it is fine to say whatever nasty comments they want. On the other hand, social media can do some good, too. Indeed, it is how I became connected with Shelah Garcia-Vasquez.
Shelah Garcia-Vasquez on Facebook

Recently, I posted a video about dogs on Facebook and YouTube. The intended audience was people visiting Rocky Point Mexico this 3-day weekend honoring Martin Luther King, Jr. Because tourism here is slow in winter, I reminded how easy it is to feed hungry dogs while passing through the border town of Sonoyta, Sonora.
Shelah Garcia-Vasquez saw my video in the Rocky Point Mexico Friends Facebook Group. She told me about and reached out to me. This was how I became aware of how Shelah save dogs. She told me all she was doing to help dogs in the Colonia San Rafeal area of Puerto Peñasco. They are all over the place, we can’t afford to feed them all. “We have 9 that we’ve rescued,” Shelah told me. “But there are dogs all over the place and we can’t afford to feed them all.”
“This is where many of the people live who work for American tourists visiting Sandy Beach Resorts.” – Shelah Garcia-Vasquez
New Rocky Point Dogs Video

In reaching out to me, Shelah Garcia-Vasquez did more than alert me. She tugged on my heart. Solely because of this, I decided to do a new video this trip about her helping dogs in Rocky Point.
Perhaps you will be touched by watching “Shelah Saves Dogs.” This video introduces Shelah, the 9 dogs she rescued, and some of the dogs she feeds in her neighborhood.
If you are moved by it, there is information on how you could help.
