Welcome to the world of ADOT Sonora traffic updates in real-time. Even Donald Trump might not call this “fake news” because it is good news for everyone. It is especially helpful to all of us “Rocky Pointers.”
And this is official. Word just hit the street through an Arizona Department of Transportation news release. “ADOT’s vision is safely connecting people and empowering the economy,” said Jennifer Toth, Director of ADOT. “This joint effort with our partners in Sonora is expanding that to peak times for travel to and from Puerto Peñasco.”
This use of the information superhighway starts with a first mile. So, understand this is a pilot program pointed at Rocky Point Mexico. As Ms. Toth implied, the program will begin with the busy U.S. National Holiday weekends.
How ADOT Sonora Traffic Updates Will Work
This use of the information superhighway starts with a first mile. So, understand this is a pilot program pointed at Rocky Point Mexico. It is designed to add convenience and safety for drivers between Arizona and Puerto Peñasco. As Ms. Toth implied, the program will begin with the busy U.S. National Holiday weekends.
However, you won’t have to wait long for the new, ADOT Sonora traffic partnership in real-time. That’s because it begins the Thanksgiving 2024 holiday weekend.
Real-time data online will include traffic updates and highway conditions between Lukeville, Arizona and Puerto Peñasco. For example, an alert about a crash on Mexican Federal Highway 8 approaching Sonoyta. Or, be advised to slow down because of a car broken down on AZ 85 just north of the Lukeville Port of Entry.
All information will be driven by ADOT Traffic Operations Center using the existing AZ511 system.
How to Use AZ511
There is good news and even better news on how to use AZ511. ADOT Sonora traffic updates will be accessible on web browsers and mobile devices by logging on to AZ511.gov. But if you have ever driven in Southern Arizona, you know in most places you have a better chance getting attacked by a coyote than getting internet access.
(NOTE: You can get online at the Lukeville. And believe it or not, you can enjoy internet access on your phone along much of the Sonoyta- Peñasco highway).
Therefore, the AZ511 website could be useful before you get to far from major cities. It could also be a valuable tool for friends and family members wanting to stay informed on your travel progress for holiday gatherings.
So, because of the abundance of limited connectivity, the AZ511 App might be best way to go. It is available for both Apple and android devices. You could download it before you hit the road next time going to or from Rocky Point.
Transportation and Tourism Teamwork
Both Arizona and Sonora benefit when they work together in tourism and transportation. Credit for the ADOT Sonora traffic updates can be shared by multiple government officials on both sides of the border.
– ADOT, the Arizona Department of Transportation
– Arizona Mexico Commission
– Arizona Office of Tourism
– State of Sonora Comisión Sonora-Estados Unidos
Lisa Urias, Director of the Arizona Department of Tourism summed it up nicely. “AZ511 helps make the international travel experience as enjoyable and efficient as possible.”
Many who work in government do so because they want to make a difference. Granted, we often get annoyed by politicians and criticize them. However, it is also fair to compliment them when good things get done for the people.
“We are building a new bilateral model that improves the quality of life in our societies,” wrote Sonora Governor Durazo on X.
