Many in the Rocky Point Mexico community are heartbroken. It is an aching which spread rapidly to El Paso, Texas and well beyond. Sadly, this is all because of the Sonoran Sea tragedy Monday evening.
Monday, June 10, 2024. The day had the look, feel, and expectation of being a lull in the action. Life was just a little quieter in Puerto Peñasco, especially at the Sonoran Sea Resort on Sandy Beach.
The long weekend of the 25th annual Circus Mexicus concert event was over. The main stage for the day and night music was well within earshot, eyesight, and walking distance of the Sonoran Sea Resort. Most of those attending the fun party atmosphere made their way homeby the time of the Sonoran Sea tragedy.
Meantime, another big wave is coming to town quickly. Father’s Day Weekend is next on the calendar just a few days from now.
Sonoran Sea Jacuzzi
Monday night, a couple from El Paso was staying at the Sonoran Sea Resort. They were doing what others had done over the weekend and throughout the day yesterday. They were enjoying time soaking in relaxation in one of the resort’s two outdoor jacuzzis.
However, hat is until something went horribly wrong.
Out of decency and respect, I dare not speculate on what caused the Sonoran Sea tragedy. Instead, as a former TV news reporter and producer, I will simply stick to the facts.
Accordingly, eyewitnesses say people were electrocuted. The exact number of victims and to what extent they were electrocuted is unclear because eyewitnesses report efforts to save the couple in the Sonoran Sea jacuzzi water.
One man is dead. An official press release from the Sonora State Attorney General’s Office identifies the 43-year-old deceased man as Jorge N. The woman is identified as Lizeth N. An El Paso Times newspaper report says she has been transported to a U.S. hospital and is listed in critical condition.
Sonoran Sea Viral Video
There is a viral video of the Sonoran Sea tragedy. I have seen it and remain disturbed from watching it. Regardless, it pales in comparison to the experience of those who witnessed the nightmare. Parental discretion is advised. Therefore, consider yourself duly warned.
Perhaps because of the video, awareness of the tragic electrocutions has traveled around the world in social media and traditional media outlets. Friends of mine thousands of miles away messaged me in my Sonoran Sun 510 East condo. Nonetheless, they sent me a screenshot of the story sharing the Sonoran Sea video on TMZ.
The Sonoran Sea Resort opened on Sandy Beach in 2004. It was the second beachfront condominium property from Puerto Peñasco developer, Sonoran Resorts. There are 228 condos at the Sonoran Sea Resort which is owned and managed by its homeowner’s association (HOA).
Meanwhile, I ask you to please keep Lizeth and all those involved in the Sonoran Sea tragedy in your thoughts and prayers.
