None of us are getting out of here alive. However, we usually don’t know when, where, and how our exit will take place. Nevertheless, sometimes the way a person dies gives you a really good look at how they lived. We especially like to think that way about everyday heroes, don’t we? Therefore, in this moment, count me in. I am surely thinking that way about Hector Valenzuela Molina.
A lot of people in Rocky Point Mexico Puerto Peñasco knew and thought highly of the man. However, I didn’t know Hector. But heck, it sure feels like I would have welcomed the chance. It might have been cool to have him over to the Sonoran Sun for a cocktail. Maybe have his son come along and go swimming in one of our pools.
Yet, such an occurrence is no longer possible. This is because sadly, Hector Valenzuela Molina passed away on October 14, 2024. He will be remembered for his final act which was a true example of selflessness, bravery, and heroism.
Tragedy at Sea
It was Monday afternoon. As the story goes, Hector Valenzuela Molina was at the beach near the above area marked De Marua. Tesoro Beach is an area east of downtown Puerto Peñasco. You will find it between Las Conchas and Playa Encanto.
Around 4:00 p.m., Hector’s friend, Jesus, went into the water with his two sons. Jesus Aaron is 9 years old. Meanwhile, little Liam Emiliano is just 4.
Jesus took Liam with him in a kayak. His older son was nearby in the water. However, after a few minutes, the 9-year-old fell into what appeared to be a hole and went completely underwater. Dad got out of the kayak to help him.
Hector Hopes to Help
The scary situation quickly worsened because little Liam fell out of the kayak. Briefly, Jesus was able to hold both his sons. However, the younger one got loose. Hector Valenzuela Molina went into the sea to rescue him. He reached the boy, but unfortunately was unable to get to shore with him.
The wife of Jesus helped Jesus get the boys safely to shore. Jesus then went back into the water for his fatigued friend. By this time, Hector was unconscious. Battling the current and his own fatigue, Jesus could only get close. Search crews discovered Hector’s body a kilometer away. Tragically, he drowned.
The Sea Giveth and Taketh Away
The two boys’ lives were spared. They were taken for medical evaluation and were treated and released. Meanwhile, the sea took Hector Valenzuela Molina who was just 55 years old. Please send prayers and warm thoughts to his loved ones. Hector leaves behind a son who will be left with a final memory of his father as a hero.
