Today isn’t just another today. It is Sunday, September 22, 2024. What a great day if you are a fan of watching the National Football League. NFL Football, right? However, there is even more going on today than NFL football. And it offers something for everyone. That is because today means the Fall 2024 season is now underway. For this personally, I say…thank you!
The photo above was taken last year from the balcony of the Sonoran Sun 510 condo. It was a typical fall day in Puerto Peñasco. Who needs tree leaves changing color when you have this? On the other hand, seeing fall in Rocky Point at this time in this context, it just looks and feels cooler, doesn’t it? In addition, the crowded conditions are gone. Hopefully, we will also be able to say that with affection about the heat and humidity.
Fall 2024 is Officially Here
Fall (or autumn if you prefer) officially began at 5:44 a.m. for those of us in the Pacific Time region. I happened to be up at the time. I’ll admit, part of me just wanted to make sure there was no funny business taking place with this seasonal change.
Officially, the first day of Fall 2024 in the Northern Hemisphere is called the autumnal equinox. Other than the vernal equinox back on March 19, this is only day remaining this year when the sun is directly over the Equator. This means day and night are divided exactly into equal halves.
However, if you are like most people, you are more interested in the average temperature than the exact time. This is why so many of us will embrace the Fall 2024 season like a long-lost friend.
Long and Brutal Summer
Rocky Point Mexico is nicknamed “Arizona’s Beach” for good reason. It is the beach destination of choice for most Arizonans because it is closer and much cheaper than going to California beaches. Plus, the Sea of Cortez water temperatures are much more pleasant than the Pacific Ocean. Furthermore, it is key to point out how Arizona is the main driver impacting the Puerto Peñasco economy.
All of the places typically lined to Puerto Peñasco tourism were quite hot this summer. From El Paso, Texas to New Mexico, Colorado, and Nevada, air conditioners were running all day long, all summer long. watched in awe as the Arizona summer heat made headlines around the world. Nonetheless, millions more were watching in awe or horror as the sweltering Arizona summer heat made headlines. In particular, how Phoenix had 111 straight days with high temperatures over 100 degrees. This shattered the previous record of 76 days.
Meanwhile, in Rocky Point the hottest month of the year is typically July. However, the heat and humidity did not hit their peak this summer until around Labor Day Weekend. It will be interesting to see if the official tourism statistics show if people felt it was too hot to even hit the beach.
Fall is Usually Friendly
You have reason to be optimistic if escaping the heat is on your mind. However, you would wise to not expect the heat to fall off your radar screen completely just because Fall 2024 is officially upon us.
What I can tell you with great certainty is fall in Puerto Peñasco is usually friendly. The crowds, long lines crossing the border, and humidity are mostly in the rear view mirror. It is generally safe to say the daily forecast for Rocky Point goes like this:
“Mostly sunny and pleasant with strong chance of tacos and tequila beginning sometime in the afternoon.”
Fall is a great time to make great new memories with a stay at the Sonoran Sun Resort. How may we serve you?
