Today’s Puerto Peñasco solar eclipse was uniquely eerie. And it was because of multiple factors. Do you want to discover why? Let’s get right to it.
First, there was the traffic situation driving through the states of Arizona and Sonora. Or check that, a total lack of traffic. If it weren’t for a caravan of a dozen or so RVs, I would have basically had the road to myself from Gila Bend to Sonoyta and through to Rocky Point.
I will admit. I was looking out the driver’s side window from time to time to track the sun’s location. No harm. No foul. I can still see.
Quiet Puerto Peñasco Solar Eclipse
Granted, Puerto Peñasco Solar Eclipse Day was a Monday. However, it was a beautiful spring day with sunny skies and a temperature in the 70s. You could not ask for a more beautiful day. And still, one would think because of a solar eclipse it just might be a good enough excuse to extend your stay to a 3-day weekend beach getaway.
But apparently, others thought differently. I guess there were not as many wanna be science nerds and solar eclipse geeks like me as I realized.
The eeriness continued when I arrived at the Sonoran Sun Resort at 10:30 a.m. There were very few cars in the parking lot. The pool area was even more deserted. I’m guessing there were approximately 25 people out at the most. And that included our wonderful staff members at the Sonoran Sun. Anyway, all of this as a cool haze appeared above in the sky. It looked like a filter you could add to photos on your phone.
Solar Eclipse Glasses Work!
Yes. Solar eclipse glasses look funny. Made of cardboard and plastic they also look cheap. Let’s not forget they don’t fit very well either. But my goodness do they work. Wow. If you were without solar eclipse glasses, you did not have a ticket to the event. All you could see was the sun in the sky. You wouldn’t have a clue there was a Puerto Peñasco Solar Eclipse if you didn’t hear any of the hype for it.
However, wearing the solar eclipse glasses was a total gamechanger. When you looked up in the right direction in the sky, you could see the moon in front of the sun. It blocked out most of it. To those around the Sonoran Sun pool, they were guessing like it was north or south of the 75% eclipse range.
But sharing is caring, right? And so the funny looking but powerfully efficient glasses were shared. And every single time someone put them on and looked the Puerto Peñasco Solar Eclipse they got their own version of the WOW effect.
