Oh, those winning winter sunsets. This is a subject near and dear to my heart. and hopefully yours as well. Why this phenomenon is not widely known and loved is beyond me. Perhaps, I will just have to sip another tequila and ponder the subject some more.
Friends, the colorful displays often look like masterpieces painted on a panoramic canvas. But to be perfectly clear, these are not “once in a blue moon” events. This could not be further from the truth. Winter sunsets like the one above over the Sea of Cortez and Baja California in the distance are like magic acts in Las Vegas. These awe-inspiring shows happen almost every night.
Winning Winter Sunsets at Sonoran Sun Resort
But unlike Vegas, you do not need to buy a high-priced ticket at a normally sold out showing. Instead, there are no crowds at all. In fact, you can usually have the entire stage performance to yourselves. This is because for reasons unknown to me, many people do not think about going to Rocky Point Mexico in winter.
The above image is a photo taken from the bridge between pools at the Sonoran Sun Resort. As you can see, there were no people to get in the way of Mother Nature’s gift on this particular evening. During winter, you do not even need to leave your balcony to enjoy the full sunset showing. I know this is especially from Sonoran Sun 510 East and the other rental condos on our side of the resort.
In the summer months, you need to be down on Sandy Beach to capture the sunset falling off the horizon. Granted, that is not too much of an inconvenience for you with your not so busy vacation schedule.
Unique Winter Sunset Experience in Rocky Point
Forget waiting for a table. One of the wonders of winter sunsets in Puerto Peñasco is you can have an entire beach to yourself. Look no further for proof. That is me in the photo above on Sandy Beach. No jacket required. No blanket either. I was in shorts and a t-shirt just like I would be in summer. The difference is people, or a lack thereof.
The winter sunset experience is indeed unique. I have done it more than enough to know. I find it is a fascinating experience of both exciting and downright eerie at the same time.
Comparisons to Arizona
Yes, if you are a sunset lover who also spends much of the winter in Arizona, I know there are many reasons to stay and enjoy the evening extravaganzas there. After all, they don’t call it “The Valley of the Sun” for nothing. It is also easy to cast aside the beach because the weather outside is delightful and not frightful like the sweltering heat of summer.
Nonetheless, I’m telling you the winter sunsets over the Gulf of California and Baja California are well worth the trip. And even when the Lukeville Port of Entry is closed. Open your mind to this possibility, and there is a good chance you will feel like a winner. However, I hope too many of you do not take my advice too quickly. I would hate for massive crowds to forever change these sensational winter sunsets and the serenity that comes with them.
Wow. Just Wow.
